The district boundaries are : To the north with the province of Bocas del Toro, south with Alanje district, to the east with the districts of Boqueron and Boquete and to the west with the districts of Renacimiento and Baru.
It is a mountainous area and run several rivers: Escarrera, Mula, Güigala, Macho de Monte, Piedra, Gariche, Chiriqui Viejo (which limits with the district of Baru), Divala y Mirador.
This district is considered the richest in the province of Chiriqui, for its high agricultural production and the variety of its climates, tropical and temperate tall. The crops of the region, are classified according to lowland and highland.
There are many traditional events celebrated in this district: Fair of Candelaria (celebrated in the last days of january and first of february), Tobacco Festival in Sortova, in april and the Potato Festival in Cerro Punta.
